A Global career
I have just completed the second seat of my training contract in Hong Kong, sitting in the shipping litigation department. Situated in the very heart of Hong Kong, HFW’s office has spectacular views across the harbour. Set over two floors, it is the largest office outside of London and covers the full spectrum of HFW sectors.
Located at the geographic centre of the firm’s global network, the office feels dynamic and international. During my secondment, I worked with colleagues from at least seven of our offices, including trainees on secondment in Paris and Singapore.
I was involved in exciting and varied work. For instance, I was given responsibility for drafting an affidavit in opposition to an application for summary judgment, researched engineering, procurement and construction contracts in order to prepare a market entry report and drafted submissions in a banking dispute.
Hong Kong is famous for its thriving social scene, with beaches, brunches and boat trips to keep you occupied at the weekends, not to mention the dragon boating, rugby sevens and weekly horseraces in the middle of the city! For an authentic taste of traditional Hong Kong, the crowded backstreets and markets of Kowloon are well worth exploring.
Easily accessible hiking paths offer an escape from the bustle of the city, and for those who want to travel further afield Hong Kong is the perfect base from which to explore Southeast Asia.
